Mumbai Apartment Mumbai
This apartment is in a 21st century high rise building located in Ghatkopar area of Mumbai city in India. This 8 BHK (3500 SQFT) apartment was achieved by changing the architectural layout and combing the two apartments.
This is our clients second home. The family of three generations have travelled around the globe and really resonated with the Japanese sense of living. Grandparents, mother and father along with their daughter reside in this calm yet engaging home. The grandfather being a cartoonist really wanted a playful environment in contrast to the minimal taste of his engineer son.
Intended to run away from the conventional idea of a home; a SOCIOPETAL arrangement overlapping different layers of forms and volumes generating framing views and creating a dialogue between its characters to serve more than just the intended function.
It was a constructive process of putting things together. Apart from focusing on the form we think using objects or elements that have multiuse is kind of a nice way to have dynamic things happening in small spaces while striking a fine balance between beautiful design with practical and economic constraints, proving that sophisticated, good design does not have to break the bank.
